Rolando, your knowledge of wiki language is already a great benefit to us. The translation template already looks 500% better. Thank you. Any other changes you think we should make? --jon.jaquesTALK GENI 22:09, 2 February 2008 (PST)

Thanks! I hope I did not ruffle too many feathers. You may have seen what I did with Template:Spanish translation. It could use some tweaking, but I would like to write up a little howto document for the Translation template, and then try to get the different translators to use that format.
As far as suggestions, I would just make sure you're on the lookout for duplicate code--especially complex code like that for tables. It is ripe for errors and can be wildly inconsistent. My hope is that the Geni team could come in to a language template like the one above, parse the content, and generate their translation dictionary for that language. If every language is different--especially if the English terms are different--then it becomes a much more time consuming process.
If there are specific areas of the wiki where you think you could use some syntax/template help, let me know. Rolando 08:09, 3 February 2008 (PST)

Hi Rolando! A user has found a bug in the template/the howto page. Here is a copy of the messsage:

I try to translate GENI into to LANGUAG language. I have a question
about step 4 in your HowTo
The name of my country is "COUNTRY", the name of my language is
"LANGUAGE". So in the article "COUNTRY" is used template {{LANGUAGE
translation}}. In this template is used "{{Translation|LANGUAGE" which
generates link to the page "LANGUAGE" which doesn't exist.
But if I use "{{Translation|Template:LANGUAGE translation|" it generates
right link to template with Czech translation. I think that first
example is right but doesn't work, and second example works fine but
 it contains a bug.

What do you think? --Dicito 11:12, 27 February 2008 (PST)

Hi Dicito. I'm not sure I follow. How does this relate to existing language templates like {{Spanish translation}}, {{French translation}}, {{Russian translation}}, etc.? These are included on Mexico, France and Russia, respectively, and seem to be OK. Rolando 12:57, 27 February 2008 (PST)

(Reply to message on my own talk page:) I've done as you said, linking to my talk page in the tutorial. I've checked Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Czech Republic, Finland, Poland, Russia, France, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, which all are linking correctly. Netherlands is not using the template correctly. Big countries like Italy and Germany has a translation, but does not use the template. Should we make them use the template? Denmark is strangely the only one not working. Do you know what's wrong here? --Dicito 10:46, 29 February 2008 (PST)

Translation Template Suggestion

Rolando, I have a suggestion for the translation template. We need to make some kind of headline for the Geni Flash Interface, as many of the terms from Uncategorized belongs to something like that. Like the help balloons, the print actions and so on. Just now, I created a headline called: "Welcome to the tree" message boxes (First time using the tree only). This is something that only appears in the Geni Graphical Interface/Flash Interface or whatever it's called.
Also, many other things like all the subpages from My Tree, should have a bigger headline or something like that. Right now, everything headline is the same size, and that makes it a bit messy.
I really think the headlines should have different sizes. But what do you think? --Dicito 05:08, 1 March 2008 (PST)

I added another parameter to {{Translation/heading}}, so that you can make things larger or smaller. The acceptable values are anything valid for a CSS font property; I'd probably use something from the list below:
The code would look like {{Translation/heading|Inbox|x-large}}.
