Ya looks good :)

--jon.jaques 19:48, 7 August 2007 (PDT)

This is the first time I've ever done any wikipedia editing but I believe the template makes things easier for people, basically they add {{surname}} to the bottom of their surname page, it will categorize it in the List of Surnames. Instructions are actually on the Template:Surname page. And there is an example on my surname page (Jaques) --jon.jaques 21:11, 7 August 2007 (PDT)

Navigation for Photos and My Tree

Linking it back to the parent tab is a good idea. I took it one step further, and added links to all other tabs. I think it's easier to navigate this way, and looks more like Geni. --Ilya 17:15, 8 August 2007 (PDT)

Thanks Noah!! --jon.jaques 19:18, 8 August 2007 (PDT)

Copyright infringement, wiki, advices

Hello Noah,

I notice you still familiarising yourself with wiki, since you seem to believe that my comment was left by the owner of the talk page. :-) But it was me, and as I see he keeps copycating content without proper attribution AND ignoring my comment as well, which is a pretty rude behaviour.

But anyway. Most of the contributions from User:Attila (especially anything longer than 1kB) were most probably simply stolen from other websites, most often Wikipedia. However you should read what I said in Suggestions#Wiki_suggestions, since it's mostly geni who to blame since it was not told in the first place what is allowed and what is not. I guess most of the longer contributions in the last month are infringing on others' rights...

It is still secret (not told) what can you, or anyone else do with the material I submit (right now), since Wiki:Copyrights and Meta:About does not mention any license, so basically now anything anyone submit here is copyrighted by them, so nobody allowed to use any material here unless it is explicitely allowed prior usage, including Geni. Funny result, isn't it?

IANAL. But I started hungarian wikipedia and I am quite familiar with copyright problems and laws, and since you live in the land of lawyers, I mean, uhm, the land of the free I mean... I wouldn't wait until someone sees money in suing you.

If you want to ask anything further feel free to ask either here or by email (wiki software knows my email), and I'll answer if you promise to finish gedcom import faster. ;-)

Wishing you safe riding. --grin 13:08, 18 October 2007 (PDT)

Hi, Noah.

Is there any way I can avoid having to fill a captcha for every edit I make here on the wiki? It's getting a bit annoying :( --Waldir (talk) 15:03, 15 February 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for looking into it. Btw, maybe you could try the ReCaptcha MediaWiki extension, it is more user-friendly and it helps book digitizing projects :D
By default, reCaptcha uses these configs:
$wgGroupPermissions['*'            ]['skipcaptcha'] = false;
$wgGroupPermissions['user'         ]['skipcaptcha'] = true;
$wgGroupPermissions['autoconfirmed']['skipcaptcha'] = true;
$wgGroupPermissions['bot'          ]['skipcaptcha'] = true;
$wgGroupPermissions['sysop'        ]['skipcaptcha'] = true;

$wgCaptchaTriggers['edit']          = true;
$wgCaptchaTriggers['create']        = true;
$wgCaptchaTriggers['createaccount'] = true;
You could make it so autoconfirmed users ('autoconfirmed') get to skip the captcha, but not everyone else ('user'). Autoconfirmed users achieve that status automatically after a minimum number of edits and account age. You can configure that using $wgAutoPromote:
//automatically promote users to autoconfirmed status
//after 50 edits and a minumum of approx. one week (600,000 seconds) since their first edit
$wgAutopromote = array(
   'autoconfirmed' => array( '&', array( APCOND_EDITCOUNT, 50 ), array( APCOND_AGE_FROM_EDIT, 600000 ) );
Looking forward to hear from you :) --Waldir (talk) 19:23, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
Hi Noah. Do you have any news regarding this issue? --Waldir (talk) 10:16, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

Spam Accounts

You may want to disable new user registrations to counter the recent influx of spam, until you can put a robust system in place to vet the content creation.

Suggestion - is it possible to require the user accounts to be a couple of days old before they can create content? --Ashley 09:16, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
