Tepper is derived from the Yiddish, German, and Polish words that translate as "potter". From my heritage, the Tepper name can be traced back to western Galicia, near Sanok, Poland (more precisely, the shtetl of Mrzygłód). Members of this family immigrated to the US to Wilkes-Barre, PA, Pittsburgh, PA, and Urbana-Champaign, IL.

Famous Teppers include:

David Alan Tepper: founder and hedge-fund manager at Appaloosa Management, namesake of Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University.
