The List page displays a listing of profiles that match a certain criteria for a selected profile. For example, the list for your grandfather can include his entire family, his descendants, his ancestors, etc. By default, the selected person is you.

  • Family Group - A listing of everyone in the person's Family Group.
  • Tree - By default, all people in the selected person's family tree and their spouses listed in order of relevance.
  • Blood Relatives - A listing of only family members related to this person by blood.
  • Cousins - A list of cousins in your Tree up to 5,000 cousins on your Tree.
  • Inlaws - A listing of only family members related to this person through marriage.
  • Ancestors - A listing of persons of whom the selected person is a descendant. For example, their father, mother, grandfather, grandmother, great grandfather, etc.
  • Descendants - A listing of the selected person's descendants. For example, your children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, etc.

Listings don't always have to pivot around a selected person. Other common listings are:

  • Recently Added - A listing of recently added profiles. Useful for checking what's new in your tree.
  • Recently Joined - A listing of people who have accepted their e-mail invitations and are now active members of your family at Geni.
  • Recently Modified - Profiles that have been recently updated.

You can also see a list view of:

  • Invited By ...
  • Added By ...
  • Managed By ...

Each listed profile includes a their Profile Photograph (if one exists), name, the relation to the selected person, who they were added by, the immediate family and some actions (view tree is particularly useful here).

NOTE: You may now filter the List by selecting the checkboxes next to the drop down menu. You may filter out all Deceased, Non-Users, and Family (depending on the view you select). Selecting these filters will remove those people from your list view.

You may have also noticed that we we enhanced the basic filters. All users can now filter any of the predefined lists by:

  • All/Claimed/Unclaimed
  • All/Living/Deceased
  • All/Male/Female/Unknown
  • All/Shared/Not shared

Then we added a number of advanced controls for Pro users:

Focus: By default you are the focus person of your lists. For example, the default descendant list is a list of *your* descendants. Choose a different focus person to view their list. For example, enter your great grandmother as the focus person to view the list of *her* descendants.

Sort: Sort your list by any of twelve different sort criteria, and choose ascending or descending sort.

You are no longer limited to the columns we choose. Select up to 16 different columns, in any order, for any list.

Select from over a dozen new filters, including birth and death date ranges and locations.

After you have created a list you like, use the Add bookmark link to save the list to use again later. You can even name the list for easy reference.

Here are some examples of how you can use these new advanced controls:

  • Look for ancestors that don't have parents sorted by relationship - this will help you choose what line to focus your research on
  • Create a list of your blood relatives marked living that were born before 1900
  • Find living cousins that live in a certain country or city

That's just a few ideas of what you can do with your new list views. List View your lists to try it out yourself!
