Here are a few tips to help you get started with researching and sharing your genealogy on Geni.

Information About You

Everyone knows basic information about themselves. This is the information that should be entered first. Some basics you can start with:

  • Birth date
  • Place of birth
  • Parents’ names
  • Your location (city, state, country)

Add Your Family to the Tree

Next, make sure that all of your immediate family members are added to the tree. If your tree is missing family members, you can easily add them and invite them by importing your address book, or by using the yellow arrows on your tree.

Tell Others What You Know

Finally, move on to what you know about your close family. Any basic information you add will help others who are also researching your family's history. If everyone contributes the information that they know about their close relatives, the records on Geni will be vast and accurate.
