Updating the template!

What to you think? The template is ok, but it's not finished and a lot of things needs to be organized in it. Do you think that we should try making it as finish as possible? Or should we just leave it by how it is now? Please come with your opinion! --Dicito 06:43, 23 May 2008 (PDT)

Improving this template

From the moment I put together this template, I realized there was one major problem with it: it's very hard to update the language-specific translations. Just figuring out which terms are missing is difficult, and then adding those terms to the syntax is not easy for novices. Does anyone have any simple procedures that could make it easy, or suggestions like alphabetizing the template (much easier to deal with than the current ungainly sections)? I know I could write a little web page to generate the code necessary for missing terms for a given langugage, but frankly, I'd rather not. Rolando 08:13, 14 March 2008 (PDT)

Google translate

I think it might be nice to use the Google translate API to do some first-pass automatic translation. It would be remarkably easy, if I remember correctly from my tinkering with that API a while back. Rolando 08:13, 14 March 2008 (PDT)

I must admit that I don't always trust Google Translate or any of all the other translators. The problem with these are that they don't always translate correctly, because they don't think 100% like a human. But that's just how I look at it. --Dicito 07:19, 15 March 2008 (PDT)
Dicito: I have used Google translate to translate some of a large piece of software (over 17000 terms). It is not always right, but it does do some of the heavy lifting so that more accurate humans (!) can then just pick out the errors. Rolando 08:31, 15 March 2008 (PDT)
I see your point. As of what I can see, Google translate can translate these languages: Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish. These are also the most important languages.
I wonder if I should try to translate some of the languages manually by help from Google translate? I can't really find anything about the api you are talking about. --Dicito 02:35, 18 March 2008 (PDT)
This is what I was thinking of. Rolando 14:41, 1 June 2008 (PDT)

Unclear term

Great uncle's first cousin's ex-wife's wife. Wait a second. Ex-wife's wife? Is this related to gay marriage? :) If you ask me, that's a serious question. --NoTime 07:29, 15 May 2008 (PDT)

Good question. I think I added the term, can't really remember why, but I don't think it's related to gay marriage. It wasn't the purpose anyway.--Dicito 09:37, 15 May 2008 (PDT)

Record missing and changes not taken

Hello, in Italian template (I don't know elsewhere) there are some (many) fields that are missing in 'Edit' mode. First of all (as example) is 'NUMBER generations'

More, some edits are not taken. Please check 'Only child'. I've completed but it says that are yet un-tranlate.--Giorasta 07:46, 17 August 2008 (PDT)

The russian template has the same situation: a great amount of fields are absent in edit mode. thx. Soshial 14:49, 21 September 2008 (PDT)

To prevent this scenario, the author of form for the translation must be done so that the phrases for translation were not available for edit or delete for translators. GLING 13:08, 01 March 2009

Portugal translation is awful!

I understand this concern that you have explained and almost agree, since the Brazilian translation would be used as the official translation. The horrible Portugal version, at the part that not was simply copied from the Brazilian translation, was translated with script translators (like Google Translate) and has shameful syntax and misspelling errors. Also the brazilian one uses more neutral terms and tone, wich makes it more useful. GianOp 02:58, 22 September 2008 (PST)

And why the brazilian translation did not received the tag:

This translation is 100% complete! Good job!

Considering that it is ready about ages ago? Gianop 02:56, 13 October 2008 (PST)
