Meyer
From Wiki
Meyer, Meier, Mayer
This is a German surname.
Some are from the population that moved from Germany/Austria (e.g., Weiler) under Napoleon, to Russia (e.g., Katherinendorf) under Katherine the Great or her son; they then migrated to the northern Plains states of the US or central Canada (typically the Dakotas or Saskatchewan).
A great book on the subject is unfortunately out of print: The Central Dakota Germans: Their History, Language and Culture, by Shirley Fischer Arends, 1989, Georgetown University Press, ISBN 0-87840-199-7. If somebody would make a scan or photocopy of that book, it'd be a good deed.
